Self Introduction

Dear Professor Blackstone,

I am currently enrolled in Mechanical Design and Manufacturing at the Singapore Institute of Technology. My unique journey includes prior work experience at a film production company and Krisshop (E-Commerce), potentially making me the oldest student in my class. My diploma was in 3D Interactive Media Technology at Temasek Polytechnic, with a strong focus on 3D animation and design. Despite a strong initial interest in rapid prototyping, my internship at a film production company directed my focus towards film making and storytelling. I have a hobby of playing video games, and the occasional building of LEGO, should my wallet allow it, as I find satisfaction in what I have built.

In terms of communication, I excel in smaller groups, a skill which I picked up during my role as a commander in the Combat Engineers. The importance of precise communication in handling heavy equipment and explosives was needed to avoid potential injuries or even fatalities. However, in larger group settings, such as the entire company or battalion, I tend to freeze up and experience difficulty speaking clearly, and I start to get anxious. During class presentations as well, I tend to feel anxious and start to panic at times, often forgetting what I have to say.

My goals for this module include learning to maintain a calm mind, while striking a balance between thinking and presenting myself with clarity and confidence. I consistently seek to improve myself in various situations, hoping to be a better person each day. Thank you for your time and I hope to continue learning more with you!

Best Regards,

Timothy Quek

  6. Good Day Timothy,

Your introduction concisely showcases your unique background in 3D Interactive Media. However, your hobby/past experiences such as lego building could be better linked to your interests in engineering. Otherwise, the letter expresses good flow and paragraphing. Looking forward to working with you!

    1. Hi Ethan! I Apologise for the late response! I really appreciate the time you took to read and give feedback for my Self Introductory letter! As for my interests in engineering, sadly I do not have much as the main reason I am here is mainly just to get a degree and I thought the engineering industry might suit me! Other then that, I look forward to having more interactions with you! Cheers!

  7. Dear Timothy,

Thank you for sharing this well developed and informative letter. You address the key components of the brief and provide interesting details. For instance, I really appreciate how you describe both your "unique journey" in terms of workplaces and focus areas. It makes me more curious about the type of story-telling you might have done to date. I'm also impressed by the fact that, while you apparently have quite a bit of work experience, you are humble enough to realize that one can always develop further. I'm old enough to be your father and I still feel that to be true!

While your letter is fluent, there are a few minor expression issues in it:
    1. overuse of caps
-- Despite a strong initial interest in Rapid Prototyping, my internship at a film production company directed my focus towards Film Making and Storytelling. > ?
    2. sentence structure (missing conjunction)
-- My goals for this module include learning to maintain a calm mind, strike a balance between thinking and presenting myself with clarity and confidence.

I look forward to hearing more from you this term.

    Cheers,

    Brad
